Meet the Therapist
Dr. Candace A. Koman, PhD
I am a licensed clinical psychologist based in the Washington, DC area. Guided by compassion, curiosity, and authenticity, I work collaboratively with clients to help them better understand themselves and move towards a meaningful life. Despite the serious nature of therapy, I appreciate the role that lightheartedness and humor (when appropriate) can play in the healing process.
Everyone has their own reason for seeking therapy: some are trying to better understand themselves, events from their past, or make adjustments to live a life more aligned with who they want to be. Initially trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, I appreciate how these approaches can facilitate a change in one’s actions and/or perceptions of themselves. Additional training throughout my academic and professional career inspired me to embrace an integrative approach. Depending on your needs, I find inspiration from Psychodynamic, Family Systems, Emotionally-Focused, and Relational-Cultural theories. I invite you to contact me for a free 30-minute consultation to discuss how I can best support you.
Treatment Approach & Values
Unlike Psychology's forefathers, I do not believe therapy is "one-approach-fits-all." Using evidence-based approaches, we work together to determine the best path to help you reach your therapeutic goals. I am a humanistic clinician, who deeply believes in centering your well-being.
